HOLI

30/04/2012

INDIA |

Holi Festival is a religious spring festival celebrated by Hindus.

This colorful and fun traditional event of the Indian calendar falls on the full moon of the month of Phalgun, which corresponds to the month of March in the Gregorian calendar.

.

This festival has many elements that can be compared to any Carnival around the globe.

.

During the 3 days of festivities in every town, village, road, countryside, crowds of young and old people play by throwing colored powder mixed with water on each other.

.

Within minutes… clothes, faces, streets are all colored to resemble a fairytale town, as if you were riding on a rainbow.

.

The transition from winter to spring could not be more joyful and colorful.

.

During Holi differences between castes are canceled and, in some villages, the custom is fun and gives women a chance for revenge on the men.

.

Girls and ladies with long sticks beat playfully, for the first time during the year, the representatives of the opposite sex.
