Damon Albarn has spoken about the recent DRC Music project which united Western producers with African musicians.

The term ‘world music‘ was coined almost 30yrs ago, ushering in a sea change in the way musical output was viewed. Despite this, though, there remains an enormous divide between African music and that of the developed world.

With this in mind, Damon Albarn recently accepted an invitation from Oxfam to lead a team of producers to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Named DRC Music the project is a fascinating collision between continents, cultures and styles.

Recorded across 5days, DRC Music utilised countless guest musicians as the production team attempted to get to the heart of the Congolese musical culture.

See the results of this amazing collaboration after the jump!!…. This is pure excellence!!!!!!….
